From the entrepreneur’s corner (33): You’re being laid off

You may just get to this point: “I have some news to share with you. The leadership team and I have had to make some difficult decisions in order to try and save our business, and as a part of that, we are eliminating your role at the company and you are being laid off.”

Then, you will ask a question like this: “What does this mean for me?”, “When do I stop being paid?”, “How many other people are being affected?”, “What if I work harder?”, or “Can I take a pay cut? I need this job.”

The reply comes: “I know this is a lot. I’m going to be sending you a document that outlines specifically what we will be doing as a part of your exit package and providing additional information and resources for you as soon as we get off the line.”

That’s it! And you’ll not get something like “I didn’t realize how bad this was going to be, let me see what I can do,” if you feel pi&@ed-off and like saying a lot of Fs; but your ears might still hear “I know this news is hard to hear. It’s normal to have questions that come to you later that aren’t top of mind right now, and I want to make sure you reach out to me or our HR team when you have them. We want to be available to you as you have questions and do whatever we can to help you”, which is BS; they don’t give a fcuk.

Therefore, dear friends, no matter how this comes, it’s bad news and you can’t do anything. The problem is the path, is a saying. However, get the maximum out of this, understand what’s in it for you in the future, and remember, the fat fingers guy delivering this has prepared for it. There’s no point to lose your dignity. In an “inspirational” article you can read here, from which I’ve quoted the above sayings, you’ll understand the hows and the whys.

Stay safe! Be free and enjoy life no matter what, it’s unique!

My today’s preferred: Quickbase — is a low-code platform that helps companies build great business applications around. They’re partnering now with their customers to help them through the covid19 crisis, and have extended organizations on the front line free access to their covid19 — related response solutions. For example, you can: create a medical response hotline process; connect citizens to emergency resources thanks to a Quick Base digital process; or track the outbreak and assess business impact in real time for an enterprise delivery services provider.
